Solar startup brings in $50 million in latest funding round

A startup aimed at reducing costs for solar cells has raised $50 million in its latest round of funding, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Sunivia, a spinoff from Georgia Tech’s Center for Excellence in Photovoltaics, is looking to tweak the manufacturing process, and cost, for solar cells. According to VentureBeat, the company aims to be producing cells for under $1 per watt within two years.

The funding, which will be put toward a manufacturing facility in the Atlanta area, was led by existing investor New Enterprise Associates and Advanced Equities Inc.
